DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In July 2011, employers announced 142 layoff notices affecting 12,919 workers across 24 states in the USA, up 8% from June 2011. Separately, 15,182 jobs ended in July 2011.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
