The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires larger employers to give advance notice of plant closings and mass layoffs. Most states publish those notices. Layoffs Pulse collects those public listings in one place.
Every notice on this site comes from an official state source, such as a state labor department's WARN listing. Each state publishes differently: some run clean data feeds, others post spreadsheets or PDFs. Wherever the state provides a source link, we keep it on the notice so you can always check the original.
We cover the states that publish their WARN notices in a form we can reliably collect. States we don't cover yet are marked on the states page, and we add more as we work through each state's format.
Filings spell employer names inconsistently ("Jabil Inc." vs "Jabil, Inc."), so we group spelling variants under one employer history. The exact name as filed is kept on each notice.
When a filing lists workers across multiple sites, we add them up into one total. If a filing doesn't state a clear number, we leave the count blank instead of guessing.
Every page shows a "Data as of" date from our most recent update. States publish on their own schedules, so freshness varies by state; state pages show their own date.
WARN only applies to larger employers and layoffs above certain thresholds, so smaller layoffs often never appear in these filings. Counts are as reported by the employer in the filing; we don't independently verify them, and they can be amended later.
