DigestsWeekly
Two lenses on the same seven days. What was announced this week, and which jobs ended this week.
In the week of Aug 30 – Sep 5, 2020, employers announced 448 layoff notices affecting 41,913 workers across 27 states in the USA, up 70% from the prior week. Separately, 21,953 jobs end this week.
How to read these numbers
Filed this week counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this week counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
