DigestsWeekly
Two lenses on the same seven days. What was announced this week, and which jobs ended this week.
In the week of Aug 2 – 8, 2020, employers announced 261 layoff notices affecting 25,835 workers across 25 states in the USA, down 45% from the prior week. Separately, 11,290 jobs end this week.
How to read these numbers
Filed this week counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this week counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
