DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In September 2014, employers announced 264 layoff notices affecting 23,630 workers across 24 states in the USA, up 38% from August 2014. Separately, 28,499 jobs ended in September 2014.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
