DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In December 2013, employers announced 92 layoff notices affecting 8,740 workers across 22 states in the USA, down 29% from November 2013. Separately, 16,108 jobs ended in December 2013.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
