DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In March 2012, employers announced 147 layoff notices affecting 14,717 workers across 23 states in the USA, down 9% from February 2012. Separately, 11,398 jobs ended in March 2012.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
