DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In May 2008, employers announced 93 layoff notices affecting 10,775 workers across 14 states in the USA, down 38% from April 2008. Separately, 11,015 jobs ended in May 2008.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
