DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In September 2004, employers announced 82 layoff notices affecting 10,017 workers across 10 states in the USA, down 15% from August 2004. Separately, 6,383 jobs ended in September 2004.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
