DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In December 2002, employers announced 111 layoff notices affecting 50,583 workers across 7 states in the USA, up 19% from November 2002. Separately, 25,855 jobs ended in December 2002.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
