DigestsMonthly
Two lenses on the same calendar month. What was announced this month, and which jobs ended this month.
In May 1998, employers announced 35 layoff notices affecting 5,476 workers across 3 states in the USA, down 66% from April 1998. Separately, 3,416 jobs ended in May 1998.
How to read these numbers
Filed this month counts notices by the date they were announced. Jobs ending this month counts layoffs by the date workers actually leave. The two halves rarely match, because notices are published before the layoffs they describe take effect. Federal WARN generally requires 60 days' advance notice for covered events, but requirements, exceptions, and the dates in individual records vary.
